A Danbury deputy fire chief helped save the life of a person suffering a medical crisis on a flight from Las Vegas.
The incident took place around 5:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, when Deputy Chief Bill Lounsbury was off duty on a flight from Las Vegas when he was altered that medical personnel was needed for a patient having an anaphylactic reaction.
He told the flight crew that he was an advanced EMT, said Danbury Fire Communications Coordinator James Gagliardo.
Lounsbury quickly teamed up with a Connecticut pediatrician to treat the patient.
As they were treating the patient, the doctor, accustomed to pediatric doses, questioned the adult dose. With his many years of field experience as an A-EMT, Lounsbury knew the dose to be .3mg and assisted the doctor in administering the needed medication.
The team continued to assist the passenger until landing at JFK Airport.
The person was stable at the time of landing and did not have to be transported to a hospital.
"Day or night, on duty or off duty, first responders are always ready to jump into action," Gagliardo said. "Great work D.C. Lounsbury."
